About

Jonathan Banz (b. 1987, Lucerne) is an architect, artist, and researcher working at the intersection of architecture, art, and spatial technologies. His work transforms spaces, enriching both their aesthetic and functional dimensions. He earned a Master’s in Architecture at ETH Zurich under Tom Emerson and Karin Sander. In 2015 he founded his practice and works primarily in collaboration—notably with Nikolai von Rosen. He is the co-founder of jbks lab GmbH, which focuses on architectural surveying and as-built documentation, and a researcher at TU Berlin (PEP). He has worked with Prof. Andreas Wieser’s Chair of Geosensors and Engineering Geodesy and served as an assistant to Prof. Karin Sander at the Chair of Architecture and Art, both at ETH Zurich. He has held teaching appointments at Berlin University of the Arts (UdK), the Academy of Media Arts Cologne (KHM), and ETH Zurich, and in 2025 held a temporary professorship at Munich University of Applied Sciences (Building in Existing Structures and Building Surveys). He is a member of the Swiss Society of Engineers and Architects (SIA) and the Swiss Network with Ukraine. (A detailed list of works and biography follows.)
